In northeastern Turkey, close to the border with Azerbaijan and Iran, the city Kars is located; it is a center of commerce for handmade rugs in the area, as well as the cultural center of the Azeri. In the surrounding area, lives a nomadic tribe called Terekeme that give their name to the handmade nomadic rugs Kars-Terekeme. Since the city Kars is close to Caucasus, their handmade rugs are similar in style and design with the rugs of Caucasus and especially with Kazak rugs. The same is true for the Terekeme rugs.
The knots are dense and the pile is wool of soft and durable texture. The colors are pastel and warm shades of red, brown, beige and blue.
The designs are characterized by consecutive geometric motifs and pendants representing animals, birds, trees and flowers.
Kars-Terekeme rugs are very beautiful and unique handmade rugs, able to upgrade all spaces – even modern ones. Making such a choice will give your space special and unique allure.
