Cleaning guide for vinyl floors

The vinyl floors are an economical and practical choice for any modern space, which is why their use has been increasing more and more in recent years. They are easy to maintain and clean, but special attention is required during these procedures so that damage and unwanted wear are not created. With the advice of designdrops, you will keep your vinyl floor like new!

Regular Cleaning of Vinyl Floors

Make sure to vacuum your vinyl floor regularly, about 3-4 times a week, and if necessary, repeat the process even daily. For vacuuming, you can use an electric vacuum cleaner or a traditional broom with a soft brush. Regarding mopping, this should also be done regularly, as this way you will kill the microbes on the surface and maintain a clean and hygienic space. It is important to wring out the mop well, as too much moisture can create problems for the floor. Do not leave the surface wet for more than two minutes, and if it does not dry on its own within that time, wipe it with a dry mop. Use warm water and a special mild cleaner for vinyl floors. Instead of a mop or in addition to it, you can use a cleaning cloth or a microfiber floor sweeper/mop.

Stain Removal from Vinyl Floors

Immediately remove potential stains, such as oil, ink, sauce, and blood, using a soft cloth and the appropriate solvent. Most of the time, a neutral detergent will provide the solution. To avoid spreading the stain, make sure to use movements directed toward the center of the stain. Do not use scraping tools, as they may scratch and damage the floor. If any liquid spills, absorb it immediately with an absorbent mop or a cloth to avoid leakage into the floor joints, which can cause unwanted swelling in the floor.

Oil, Vinegar, Lemon Stains:

  • Stains from these materials can damage the vinyl floor by causing discoloration, which is why they require immediate treatment. After absorbing as much liquid as possible, clean with a small amount of warm water and mild detergent.

Ink, Tomato, Blood Stains:

  • These specific stains can be removed with a small amount of diluted alcohol, which should be applied directly onto the stain, and after letting it act for a few minutes, rinse with a damp cloth.

Pen and Marker Stains:

  • Apply a small amount of white spirit to a cloth and wipe the stain to remove it. White spirit is a substitute for the well-known turpentine available commercially.

Rust Stains:

  • Rust stains are treated with a special anti-rust sponge and then must be rinsed with water.

Extra Tips:

1. Use felt pads, rugs or floor protectors to protect areas of the floor where there is heavy mobility.

2. Place an entrance mat at the entrance of your space to limit the dirt that visitors' shoes bring into the house.

3. Protect your floor from objects that generate heat, such as heaters and coals.

4. Do not use abrasive powders, acetone, wax, varnish, ammonia, and oil-based products, nor should the vinyl floor come into strong contact with tar, carpet cleaning and maintenance products, ink, wheels, shoe soles, and dyes.

5. Choose plastic items that are suitable for use on vinyl floors.

6. If you want a floor that shines, make sure to purchase a glossy floor and maintain it properly so that it does not lose its shine, as there are no products that polish vinyl floors, as is the case with wooden floors, for example.

The cleaning and maintenance of vinyl floors are of particular importance for maintaining their aesthetic and quality. Proper cleaning of vinyl floors is the key to a pleasant and hygienic indoor space. With the designdrops cleaning guides, you can keep your space and items clean and durable.
